Project Information
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Zeus Energy Limited successfully conducted an energy audit for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Maitama, Federal Capital Territory. The objective was to understand the energy usage in their facility to save money, conserve resources, and mitigate climate change. The audit provided commercially viable and technically feasible energy conservation measures based on a payback period of less than three years.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- Understand Energy Usage: Determine where, when, what, and how energy is used in the NCC facility.
- Save Money: Identify cost-saving opportunities through energy conservation measures.
- Conserve Resources: Propose measures to reduce energy consumption and conserve resources.
- Mitigate Climate Change: Implement energy-saving strategies to reduce the facility's environmental impact.
PROJECT SCOPE:
1. Initial Consultation and Assessment:
- Installed smart meters at each identified Energy Account Center (EAC) to log and monitor energy use data.
- Conducted walkthrough energy audits and electrical appliances inventory analysis.
- Conducted interviews to identify energy conservation opportunities and recommend measures.
2. Energy Audit Methodology and Instrumentation:
- Followed ASHRAE Level Standard for the energy audit.
- Segmented the facility into EACs based on significant energy use, floor level, power distribution network, and common areas.
3. Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyzed energy consumption data collected from smart meters.
- Prepared a comprehensive report outlining findings, including potential energy savings and cost reduction opportunities.
4. Recommendations for Improvement:
- Provided tailored recommendations for energy conservation measures, ensuring commercial viability and technical feasibility based on a payback period of less than three years.
- Suggested upgrades to energy-efficient lighting, HVAC systems, and implementation of automated energy management systems.
FINDINGS:
Energy Account Centers (EACs):
- Facility was segmented into the following EACs:
- Basement (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 1st Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 2nd Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 3rd Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 4th Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 5th Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 6th Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 7th Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 8th Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- 9th Floor (Wing A&B, and Corridor)
- Perimeter Lighting
- Elevator (Wing A & Wing B)
- Museum
